AndSo is the first company to use a writers room for brands. Our roster includes a Pulitzer Prize finalist, journalists, screenwriters, sci-fi novelists, and a James Beard Award winning food writer.
A writers room is just that: A room full of writers who are there to think of ideas together, and quickly. The entertainment industry has long relied on a room of writers. They invent TV series, script late-night comedy, develop concepts, and entire film franchises. The room becomes a proprietary difference maker.
Which is why we’d be proud to tell you who our writers are (but can’t and won’t until we work together).
In contrast, brands rely on an ad agency. This means that brands have one kind of writer available to them: ad copywriters. They are experts at one thing, and that thing is valuable. But the advertising business is forever chasing ideas that truly connect with people.
That singular focus generates the one idea that helps brands change course. It often takes hundreds of ideas to arrive at The One, and that is what writers rooms do best: think of a huge volume of compelling ideas that people actually want, and fast.
Just as difficult is the naming of a new brand which often takes thousands of original name options to evade the millions of existing trademarks. (In 2018, nearly 11 million name trademarks were filed across the world.) During 2021 alone, the writers room successfully created original names for three boutique hotels, a healthcare startup, a production company, a commercial outer space services provider, and a major rental community in Toronto.
The AndSo writers room is a rotating cast of writers drawn for each assignment. If you need a science fiction writer to launch your futuristic breakfast cereal, you’re covered. Or if you need to shape a vision of the utopian future of work, we’ll put a Pulitzer prize finalist for fiction on it. If you need funny, there’s a sketch comedy writer in the wings. The difference in the writers room is life experience; an experience lived outside the halls of an ad agency.
